Adam Brody, reflecting on his rise to fame through The O.C. over 20 years ago, has shared his candid thoughts on a potential reboot of the popular teen drama. The prospect of returning to California may not be imminent. While Brody, known for his role as Seth Cohen from 2003 to 2007, cherishes his memories of the show, he’s not eager to bring the series back. In an interview with Vanity Fair published on September 26, he stated, “I think it’s perfectly valid to take anything that people like and say, ‘Is there any life left in this? Would anyone care to see more? Would the band like to get back together?’” Acknowledging that an O.C. revival could be challenging from a creative standpoint, he added, “Anything’s certainly possible.”

These sentiments mirror what he expressed to E! News in 2023, where he mentioned he would consider revisiting the show only if a truly compelling idea emerged, primarily joking that it would require “lots and lots of money.” Despite his reservations, Brody fondly recalled his time on the show, noting the excitement and sync he felt with the writers. In 2021, now a star of the Netflix series Nobody Wants This, Brody also voiced skepticism about a reboot during an appearance on the Welcome to the OC, Bitches podcast, co-hosted by Rachel Bilson and Melinda Clarke.

He pointed out the societal changes since the original airing, saying, “I kind of don’t think it can be done because I feel like, socially, I think we’re in a different place. I think we’re in a more conscious place.” He elaborated that while The O.C. might seem like a critique similar to Gossip Girl, “it’s not. It’s a celebration of affluence… There’s people who love each other and care for each other and sacrifice for each other. So, it’s not a pure celebration of money. It’s a celebration of, you know, love and romance and being in high school.”
